Techno Log [7]: Phillip of M.A.N.D.Y. @ #

4/25/2009 (started at 2AM)

8 out of 10

Quality music throughout the night. Nikola opened with a solid set. Christian's set was really great - this was the 3rd time I've seen him in 7 days (he played GG park last week and opened for Paco Osuna the night before) and he appropriately stylized his set for each event, which I respect. Phillip's set was good overall, but to be honest, I felt like he didn't play a proper "com#" set. I expected a certain amount of wobbliness and/or spaceiness for the set (especially given that he went on around 4:15AM), but this was pretty straight ahead organized techno. I left early (around 6:30 AM), but I am told he got more melodic towards the end. Overall a great night and 3 great sets. The # never lets me down.

Techno Log [6]: Paco Osuna @ Mighty

Dear Sound Guy @ Mighty,
TURN YO SHIT DOWN. I only caught the first half of Paco's set, and I thought his track selection was great and mixes and buildups were on point - it was nice, techy, bassy, and bouncy, just the way I like it...but the sound engineer single-handedly ruined this show. Too loud. I walked out of Mighty with my ears ringing despite wearing ear plugs. This is the second night in a row when a great DJ set was ruined by bad sound. We need to do something, people (after we figure out how to prevent the police from breaking up undergrounds)

Techno Log [4]: Dirtybird Season Opener @ Golden Gate Park

The best things in life are free. What a perfect way to round out the last few days of quality quality music. I had flashbacks to Sunday School for Degenerates when I was here...Top quality music, great weather, and everyone just getting stupid. Man, I love this city.

Techno Log [3]: Aural Therapy: Primaveral Showcase @ Compound

9 out of 10

I've never been to a bad party @ the com#, and this one lived up to its holiness. In addition to Auralism regulars Alland and Clint, I got to see 3 new (to me) acts: Moniker, Dead Seal, and Elon. Moniker stole the show for sure.
I subtract 1 point only because having the camera crew filming the whole thing was weird and I think it influenced the vibe, but hands down this was a great party.

Techno Log [2]: Maetrik @ Starlight Room

Maetrik killed it. My first time seeing him, hopefully not my last. A versatile fellow switching between the laptop and his decks. As with all Dresscode parties, a great view of the entire city from the top of the Drake hotel, too.

Techno Log [1]: Dan Curtin @ Underground Location

Pretty cool venue - converted an old movie theater in Chinatown into a venue, but the cops shut it down. Party moved to someone's apt, and we got up close and intimate with Dan Curtin, but that got shut down too.

Techno Log [0]: Gui Boratto @ Paradise Lounge

7 out of 10.

There's never any surprises in a Gui Boratto live set given he plays mostly his own tracks. That being said, the set was still excellent since I have a high respect for Gui as a producer. Paradise Lounge's sound system is above average as well. The place got a little too crowded for me so I had to head up to the balcony to get some breathing/dancing room, but overall it was a good show.
